. QUAND LE CORBIN SE RETROUVE AVEC UN GRAND MANUEL, 15/12/2014
Separated in 1855 from Château Grand Corbin, and spreading over 7 hectares, Château Grand Corbin Manuel vineyard has known several owners over the last century and a half. Acquired in 1965 by Pierre Manuel, the property took then its current name. In 2005 Stéphane de Gaye takes over this Château then entrusted to his daughter Yseult the full management. From then Château Grand Corbin Manuel affirms its own identity through selective development of its very specific geology. Located in the northwest of saint Emilion, not far away from Pomerol, the soils of Grand Corbin Manuel are mixed with siliceous, clay and iron layer that produces charming wines which tannic flexibility reveals its real elegance. A just for pleasure wine! Mixed with 80 % healthy Merlots and 20 % of strong Cabernet franc and Sauvignon to tickle the must, the vineyard, planted with 6600 vines per hectare, became a model of good behavior admired by all the professionals. Thanks to care given to the grapes and to the way of wine making in the renovated wine Nicolas Mequin the Wine Makers reach this property at its top like its fabulous neighbours. With an aging in barrels from 12 to 18 months the fact that the wine does not deserve the wood but bear its consequences has to be considered to keep the Terroir specificity. Surrounded by glorious Châteaux, Grand Corbin Manuel benefits to be true to itself by cultivating its mellowness and silkiness. I was fortunate to taste its 2011 vintage wine. This bottle is a real and classical wine from Saint Emilion, with its dark red colour, tastes of vanilla and blackberries in the nose. Its mouth is round, smooth and fleshy with a beautiful evolution of the tannins on red fruits, peony, mocha. The final taste is full of persistent aromas of violet. A full bodied wine to be drunk with Chanterelles with grilled bacon or Guinea fowl pastilla with chards. Can be served in the next 10 years.
